Why This Safari

A perfect all-year Tanzania safari combining Big Five wildlife, three nights in Serengeti, dramatic crater landscapes, and premium semi-luxury comfort. Ideal for first-time safari travelers who want maximum wildlife value in one week.

Day 1 — Arrival in Tanzania and Transfer to Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a Mshele Tanzania Adventures representative. After a short briefing, enjoy a private transfer to Arusha through scenic countryside with possible views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days. Check in at your hotel and relax after your international journey. Depending on arrival time, enjoy leisure at the hotel, poolside relaxation, or prepare your safari gear for the adventure ahead.

Day 2 — Tarangire National Park Safari

After breakfast, depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park in your private 4×4 safari vehicle. Tarangire is famous for ancient baobab trees, seasonal river valleys, and some of East Africa’s largest elephant populations. Enjoy a full game drive searching for elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, ostrich, and rich birdlife. Picnic lunch will be served inside the park in a scenic area. In the late afternoon, continue to Karatu for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 3 — Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park

Depart early for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the famous crater floor for a spectacular wildlife safari. This unique natural sanctuary offers one of the best chances in Tanzania to see the Big Five in one day. Search for black rhino, lions, elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, hippos, zebras, and flamingos around the soda lake. After picnic lunch, continue toward Serengeti National Park where the endless plains begin to open before you. Arrive at camp in the evening surrounded by the sounds of the wild.

Day 4 — Full Day Safari in Central Serengeti

Today is dedicated to exploring the wildlife-rich plains of Central Serengeti. This region is known for year- round resident game and excellent predator sightings, especially lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas. Your guide will track wildlife movement and take you through different habitats including open plains, kopjes, and river systems. Large herds of zebra, gazelle, wildebeest, giraffe, and elephant are commonly seen. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush and continue your safari until sunset.

Day 5 — Another Full Day Serengeti Wildlife Experience

With a second full day in Serengeti, you gain more time to explore deeper areas and maximize wildlife encounters. Morning hours are often ideal for predator activity, while later in the day large herbivore herds gather across the plains. Your guide may choose new routes depending on seasonal conditions and recent sightings. This extra day is especially valuable for photographers and travelers wanting a richer Serengeti experience rather than rushing through the park. Return to camp for dinner under the African sky.

Day 6 — Serengeti to Karatu via Scenic Safari Route

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive in Serengeti before beginning the return journey toward Karatu. Continue through wildlife areas with chances for additional sightings along the route. Pass through the Ngorongoro highlands where changing landscapes provide beautiful views and cooler temperatures. Lunch will be taken during the journey. Arrive in Karatu by evening and enjoy lodge comfort after several exciting safari days.

Day 7 — Ngorongoro Highlands / Return to Airport

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before departing Karatu for Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport depending on your onward flight schedule. The drive passes farms, villages, and scenic highland landscapes, offering a final look at rural Tanzania. Depending on timing, optional shopping stops or local craft markets may be possible. Our team will ensure timely airport transfer and a smooth departure. Thank you for choosing Mshele Tanzania Adventures.

  1. What is the best time of year to go on a safari in Tanzania? The best time for a safari in Tanzania depends on your preferences. The dry season (June to October) is ideal for wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources, but it’s also the busiest time. The wet season (November to May) offers lush landscapes and fewer tourists, but wildlife may be harder to spot due to thick vegetation.
  2. What should I pack for a safari in Tanzania? Essential items include lightweight and neutral-colored clothing, sturdy walking shoes, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, a camera with extra batteries and memory cards, and any necessary medications. It’s also advisable to pack layers as temperatures can vary throughout the day.
  3. Do I need a visa for Tanzania? Most visitors to Tanzania require a visa, which can be obtained upon arrival at the airport or purchased online in advance. Visa requirements vary depending on your nationality, so it’s important to check the latest information before traveling.
  4. Is it safe to go on a safari in Tanzania? Tanzania is generally safe for tourists, including safaris, but it’s important to take standard precautions such as staying updated on travel advisories, avoiding isolated areas at night, and following the guidance of your tour guides.
  5. What types of accommodations are available on safari? Accommodation options range from luxury lodges and tented camps to budget-friendly campsites. Luxury lodges typically offer comfortable amenities such as en-suite bathrooms, gourmet meals, and swimming pools, while tented camps provide a more authentic safari experience with canvas tents and communal dining areas.
  6. What wildlife can I expect to see on safari in Tanzania? Tanzania is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard), as well as cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. The specific animals you’ll encounter will depend on the location and time of year.
  7. Are safaris suitable for children? Many safari operators offer family-friendly safari options, including accommodations with family rooms, shorter game drives, and child-friendly activities. However, it’s important to consider the age and interests of your children when planning a safari and to choose activities that are suitable for them.
  8. What is the typical duration of a safari in Tanzania? Safari durations can vary depending on your preferences and itinerary. Most safaris range from a few days to a week or more, with shorter safaris focusing on specific national parks or wildlife areas and longer safaris covering multiple destinations. Customized itineraries are also available to suit individual preferences and schedules.
